ABOUT US
A family-owned Far North building and timber business focused on honest work, strong relationships, and quality outcomes for renovation and construction projects.
We’re a people-first business
Family Owned, Community Focused
Kiwi Carpentry is a family-owned building and manufactured timber products business based in the Far North of New Zealand.
While we’re known for the work we produce, what matters just as much to us is how we go about it, with honesty, care, and a genuine respect for the people we work with.
We’re a personal company by nature. We value relationships, open communication, and doing the right thing, even when it’s not the easiest option.
Because at the end of the day, we’re not just building projects.
We’re working in people’s homes, communities, and lives.
Where it all began
Built on Craftsmanship
The foundations of Kiwi Carpentry were laid through a deep respect for craftsmanship and practical building knowledge developed over decades.
Our story began with founder Rob Bennie, whose early career included extensive hands-on experience in restoration and traditional building work both overseas and in New Zealand. That grounding in older structures, heritage materials, and problem-solving continues to influence how the business operates today.
That experience shaped a simple belief that still guides us:
“Take the time to understand a building properly before making decisions.”
How the business has evolved
Over time, Kiwi Carpentry has grown into what it is today, a family-led business supported by a skilled, committed team.
Andrew and Catherine later joined the business, bringing fresh energy, complementary skills, and a strong focus on people, communication, and long-term sustainability. Together, the business has continued to evolve while staying true to its original values.
Growth for us has never been about becoming bigger for the sake of it.
It’s been about building something stable, honest, and worth being part of.
How we choose to work
Renovation and building work are not always straightforward, particularly in older Far North homes where hidden issues and unknowns are common.
That’s why our approach is grounded in realism, not promises.
We believe in:
- being upfront and honest
- thinking problems through before reacting
- offering practical solutions, not passing issues on
- communicating clearly throughout the process
- protecting the outcome, not just the scope
We’re known locally as a team who are good to deal with, people who sort things out, follow through, and stay accountable.
We’d rather take extra time, absorb additional cost, or rework something properly than walk away from a job that doesn’t sit right.
What matters to us (and how that shows up)
The way we work is guided by a few simple values, not as statements on a wall, but as expectations we hold ourselves to every day. We believe in:
Respect
Pride
Quality
Accountability
Safety
These aren’t things we talk about often, but they’re visible in how we show up, how we communicate, and the standard of work we deliver.
Our team is the heart of the business
Kiwi Carpentry would not exist without the people behind it.
Our team brings a wide range of skills across carpentry, manufacturing, problem-solving, and on-site delivery, but more importantly, they share the same care for quality and respect for one another.
We place strong value on teamwork, trust, and supporting each other through both work and life. Everyone’s contribution matters, and we take pride in creating an environment where people feel valued, backed, and encouraged to grow.
When people speak positively about Kiwi Carpentry, they’re usually talking about our team, and that’s something we’re incredibly proud of.
Why we do what we do
We believe people deserve to feel confident in the decisions they’re making about their homes and projects.
In an industry that can sometimes feel rushed or impersonal, we aim to offer something different, a more human, considered way of working where relationships matter and expectations are clear.
We’re realists.
We understand that building can be complex, budgets are finite, and life doesn’t always run smoothly.
So we meet people where they are, honestly, respectfully, and without pretending everything is perfect.
That’s how we’d want to be treated.
And that’s how we run Kiwi Carpentry.
